New Nurse Leaders in M&A and Clinical Operations
Simione Healthcare Consultants, a leading consulting firm specializing in home care and hospice, has appointed two nurse leaders as Senior Managers in clinical consulting.
Rachel Hawkins, RN, BSN, Senior Manager, Mergers & Acquisitions
A resident of Indiana, Rachel Hawkins will focus on clinical consulting for mergers and acquisitions. She has nearly 20 years of healthcare and home care management experience, including oversight of multiple branches and corporate departments ranging from field operations to corporate leadership functions. Her expertise includes operations, financial management, clinical care, and training and program development in home care and critical care.
Most recently, Hawkins was corporate director of clinical affairs with Almost Family Inc., since 2002, where she led compliance for 250 home health agencies in 15 U.S. states, served as the regulatory liaison, and spearheaded accreditation and training initiatives. During her tenure, she also co-led care practice improvements to support a pay-for-performance initiative and National Home Health Compare Quality Initiative to decrease acute care admissions.
During 1996-2002, Hawkins served as director of clinical services for home care and a nurse case manager for Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany, IN. She also served as an ICU staff nurse at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, KY, from 1994-96.
She is a member of the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, and a past member of the Kentucky Home Care Association (quality improvement committee), and the Indiana Association of Home and Hospice Care (regulatory, legislative, and quality improvement committees).
Hawkins earned a B.S.N. from Spalding University, Louisville, KY, where she earned the Mary Zollman Award for Administrative Leadership in Nursing.
Kathleen (Kit) Hughes, RN, BS, MHA, Senior Manager, Clinical Operations
An Idaho resident, Kit Hughes will support clinical and operations consulting, following progressive leadership roles in home care and hospice organizations since 1994. She has a proven track record of successful leadership in regional operations, patient outcomes, financial performance and employee relations initiatives with post-acute organizations. Prior to her joining the Simione team, she served as regional director of operations for Intrepid USA Health Care, Dallas, TX, where she oversaw home health and hospice operations for the company in a four-state region, since 2013.
During 2003-2013, Hughes led clinical and business operations as executive director with Gentiva Hospice in Washington state; area vice president for Amedisys Home Health Services, Baton Rouge, LA; and director of clinical operations for Providence Home Services, Portland, Oregon. Her work as an agency administrator included roles with Addus Health Care, Portland, Oregon; Home Health Care Inc., Missoula, Montana; and Interim HealthCare Inc., Sunrise, Florida; from 1994-2003.
A registered nurse, Hughes earned a master of health care administration from the University of Phoenix, Phoenix, AZ, and a bachelor’s degree in health care administration from SUNY Empire State College, Saratoga Springs, NY, following extensive patient care experience in home health, hospice, long-term and acute care settings. She is a nursing graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica, NY.
